Greg Sweatt comes from behind to claim GCRO senior title

Marion, Iowa // July 24, 2011

Greg Sweatt fired a senior best 6-under-par 66 on Sunday to claim the senior professional title in the 13th Annual Greater Cedar Rapids Open at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.

A resident of Irmo, S.C., Sweatt carded an eagle, five birdies and a bogey in his final round to finish the rain-shortened 36-hole tournament with a 6-under par 138. That was two shots better than the four senior professionals who finished the tournament at 4-under-par 140.

Former GCRO Senior Professional champions Dave Rummells of Kissimmee, Fla. (2008), and Barry Cheesman of Sarasota, Fla. (2009), who were tied at 4-under-140 for the clubhouse lead Saturday night after completing their second-round of play.

John Bermel of Cedar Falls was at 3-under and Jim Chancey of Tupelo, Miss., was at 1-under following their first rounds Friday. On Sunday, Bermel shot a 1-under 71 while Chancey carded a 2-under 69 to also finish at 140 in the tournament, which was shortened from 54 to 36 holes because of inclement weather through the weekend.
